And so...

...so even in the midst of heartache, the dogs must be fed and life goes on.  We humans are so resilient.  Even when we think that we will be sad forever, our bodies just don't let that happen.

But things were pretty mundane today.  Got up, fed the dogs, tried to get everything I needed to do on the computer done (it's becoming surprisingly more complicated these days!), went to the book store and had a fairly quiet afternoon, came home, cooked dinner, and am now watching the results show for Dancing with the Stars.

So, with nothing interesting to report, time to delve in the Meme vault and find one I haven't done yet.  Here goes:

1. Have you ever been on the wrong side of the law?
Less now than in my speed-demon days when I would drive up to Davis on a Sunday morning to check on the status of our house, being built.  I often hit 80 on the freeway, but was never caught.  I did get caught for speeding twice, once in Davis and once on the freeway. Miraculously, both times I managed to get off with a warning.

2. What was the last thing you described as either "surprisingly good" or "surprisingly bad?"
I can't think of anything specific, but I would bet that the last thing "surprisingly bad" would be one of the David Baldacci books I finished a couple of weeks ago ("True Blue").  Fortunately, the one I finished yesterday was much better.
As for "surprisingly good," maybe the vanilla malt we had at Mel's diner the other day.  It's so rare I order something with malt in it where I can actually taste the malt.

3. When was the last time you unintentionally surprised someone else?
Unintentionally?  I can't think of anything.  Walt is constantly unintentionally surprising me by coming into my office quietly, though.

4. When was the last time you deliberately surprised someone else?
Maybe the Amazon gift card I sent to Jeri for her birthday--but she would certainly have been expecting something, it being her birthday and all.

5. What was the last really funny movie you watched?
We see so few movies in the theater that I had to check my database.  The last really funny movie that we saw in a theater was Toy Story 3, which we saw in 2010.

6. What is something that you've never done that you secretly are dying to do?
Well, I will never do it, but something that I've never done that I was dying to do when I was younger was to learn to ride a horse.  Now we'd need a Clydesdale...and even then I'd feel sorry for the poor thing!

7. What do you hope is different in your life by May 2013?
I hope I can say how wonderful it is that we have gone an entire year without having to bury another friend.

8. Who is the last person you greeted at your door?
You know...?  I've become my father.  I rarely answer the door if I can see through the peep hole that Walt put in for me a few years ago that it is a stranger.   I hate people with clipboards, clean young gentlemen who want to let me know why I should investigate their religion and the sweet old ladies who want to give me newsletters.  In fact, it was the sweet old ladies who were the cause of the peep hole.  I think the last person I actually opened the door to was Ashley, but that was a few weeks ago.   (There is the added incentive not to open the door because the dogs are such a pain at the door!)

9. If you could live in any ancient city during the height of the quality of its society and culture, which one would you choose?
How far back is "ancient"?  I would love to have lived in York, England.  Though the city was founded in 71 AD (which may qualify it for "ancient" status), I probably would have waited until after the Minster was completed, in the 8th century.

Tomorrow is Cousins Day.  We are having our regular cousins day and then in the morning on Thursday, we will drive Kathy's ashes out to Drake's Bay and scatter them where we scattered her mother's ashes (if I can find the place!).  So anyway, the next entry of this journal won't be posted until late tomorrow afternoon.
